MCQ Pediatrics Answer 5

The Correct ANSWER is : B

After a large local reaction to a sting, most people have positive skin tests, suggesting that an allergic reaction is involved. Even so, venom immunotherapy is not effective for preventing large local reactions. Cellulitis rarely develops after an insect sting, and antibiotics are not usually required. People who have had large local reactions typically continue to have similar reactions after subsequent stings; the risk of anaphylaxis is less than 5% per episode. Usual medical management for these reactions includes analgesics and antihistamines. Sometimes a short course of oral steroids is required if the swelling is extensive and disabling.
