Chronic fatigue syndrome is characterized by a persistent sore throat with tender cervical adenopathy, low-grade fever, decreased natural killer cells but normal white cell count, and a significantly hypotensive response to tilt table testing. Epstein-Barr virus antibody (EBV) titers may be elevated, but this is not specific to chronic fatigue syndrome.
