Legg-Calve-Perthes disease occurs more frequently in boys than in girls (5:1), but rarely in children over 12 years old. The disease occurs bilaterally in 20% of children. It is often seen in children of short stature. Although the child may present with mild or intermittent pain, the classic presentation has been described as a "painless limp."
