The bone marrow transplantation service requests a consult on a 44 year-old patient who is 21 days post allogeneic bone marrow transplant for renal cell carcinoma and has developed a deep venous thrombosis (DVT) of the left lower extremity. The patient has a past history of a DVT in the right lower extremity following a right knee injury that led to a 2-week immobilization at age 32.
