If a monocular dense cataract remains untreated for as short a time as 6 months, the prognosis for eventual good vision is extremely poor. The earlier corrective surgery is performed, the better the prognosis. Therefore, any infant with cataracts or other lesions likely to produce amblyopia should be treated as soon as possible.
