Indications for enucleation are -

  1. ABSOLUTE -Retinoblastoma and malignant melanoma.
  2. Relative are Painful blind eye following glaucoma, Endophthalmitis, mutilating ocular injuries, anterior staphyloma and pthysis bulbi.
Indications for evisceration are Panophthalmitis, expulsive choroidal hemorrhage and bleeding anterior staphyloma. In Panophthalmitis we prefer evisceration to prevent infection reaching meninges.
