Explanation
These antibodies, also known as anticardiolipin antibodies, target certain parts of a cell's membrane. They are detected through special blood tests in about a third of SLE patients. When found in the presence of certain other factors, these antibodies affect blood clotting, leading to: miscarriages, strokes and low platelet counts.
