DTinea cruris is a 'herpes circinatus' that occurs in the fold of the groin. The microscopic picture is the same as in tinea corporis. The pathogens are almost exclusively three anthropophilic species, Trichophyton rubrum, Epidermophyton floccosum and Trichophyton mentagrophytes var. interdigitale, and are always found on the feet in these patients (tinea pedis). Erythrasma and intertrigo caused by yeasts must be included in the differential diagnosis.
