ENT Mcqs for Medical Students: With Explanatory Answers (MasterPass Series)Answer c) impacted F.B in the ear

Foreign bodies are sometimes inserted into the external canal and may become lodged. Alternatively, insects or debris may be blown into the ear . If the foreign body is composed of vegetable matter, irrigation and the use of liquids are contraindicated. This is because vegetable matter (e.g. peas, beans) is absorptive and swells up on contact with liquid. Hence, the foreign body becomes more firmly lodged and difficult to remove.
