Cirrhosis is not a risk factor for the development of toxicity to any given drug. Individuals with cirrhosis actually metabolize drugs at a slower pace and therefore produce active metabolites at a much slower rate than do otherwise healthy individuals. Thus, metabolites that are associated with intrinsic toxicity are produced more slowly and have time to be metabolized. Idiosyncratic reactions have no relationship to rate of metabolite production and therefore the presence has no bearing on whether such agents will develop toxicity or not.
