Chronic Hepatitis B patients with abnormal liver functions tests and evidence of progressive disease or patients with sever disease, including fulminant hepatitis B or cirrhosis should be considered for antiviral therapy. Both HBeAg positive and HBeAg negative patients with active HBV replication should be considered for treatment The aim is of treatment is to suppress viral replication and facilitate seroconversion.in HBeAg positive patients . The current treatment options for HBV are lamivudine, interferon alpha and peginterferon alpha-2a, adefovir dipivoxil, entecavir and telbivudine. These options are only effective in achieving HBeAg loss in around 40% of patients, and they are often associated with limited efficacy, poor tolerability or high rates of resistance.
