D. Mitral stenosis
Although not usually severe, the commonest forms of pulmonary hypertension are those that occur secondary to chronic lung disease and left ventricular failure. Thus, pulmonary hypertension and right ventricular hypertrophy (cor pulmonale) may complicate the course of severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). In addition, any cause of left ventricular failure may lead to pulmonary venous congestion and hence pulmonary
hypertension.
Similarly, unidentified mitral stenosis may present with symptoms of severe right heart failure. Other causes include congenital heart disease, narrowing of small blood vessels in the lung, pulmonary emboli and primary pulmonary hypertension (PPH).
